Digital imaging and archiving produce massive databases of ecological data, open-access yet inaccessible without specialized technical training. “Extant Leaves” excavates archives of fossilized leaves, buried under complicated search queries and cryptic cataloging. Through their re-animation, ancient intelligence and resilience inscribed in the geology of the Earth becomes tangible for everyone. Extant Leaves was exhibited in the Venice Biennale Architecture 2025 ‘Intelligens’, curated by Carlo Ratti. Extant Leaves will featured in MIT Thresholds Issue 54, Recording. |
