DOUBLE NEGATIVE TREE
—Machine Vision —Sculpture
Düsseldorf, DE
2020
With media artist Clement Valla, a tree was plucked from Google Earth and transformed into a life-sized sculpture. The tree represents a copy-of-a-copy, a mechanized attempt to capture nature. It also highlights the highly automated process engineered by Google in which data and photographs are parsed and recombined to reflect back to us a navigable 3D world.
Double Negative Tree has been built in a multiple iterations for the Die Digitale Festival in Düsseldorf, a private collector in Asti, and for the art festival organizer Freiluft in Wuppertal.
A NEW TYPE OF ILLUSION FOR OUR ON-SCREEN AGE.
